Gharana is my new programme for De Concertzender on the different gharana’s, or different schools, of North Indian raga music. This 90-minute programme will be aired four times a year. The first episode will be dedicated to Kaushiki Chakrabarty and the Patiala Kasur Gharana.
In this programme -hosted in dutch- there will be excerpts of an interview (see pictures above) I did with Kaushiki earlier this year, when she was touring in the Netherlands. She will be explaining about her music and her career. The programme also features excerpts of Kaushiki’s concert on April 15th, 2007, in Amsterdam. Furthermore there’s music from her albums ‘Swar Sadhna’ (2003), ‘Pure’ (2004) and ‘Kaushiki’ (2007), and there will be recordings of her mother Chandana Chakrabarty, her famous father and guru Ajoy Chakrabarty and several recordings of celebrated masters of the Patiala Kasur Gharana: Ustad Kale Khan, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, and Ustad Munawar Ali Khan.
The first episode of Gharana will be aired on Friday 30th November 2007, 20:00 PM-21.30 PM ; you can listen online via De Concertzender or ‘on demand’ afterwards and also have a look at the playlist of the programme.
AND NOTICE THIS: on Youtube you can watch a VIDEO (in two parts) I produced on Kaushiki, focusing on her performance in Amsterdam in April 2007.
I love Indian music and I’am looking forward to your broadcast of Kaushiki Chakrabarty and the Patiala Kasur Gharana. Thank you very much!!!
